Lyrics
|
They're burning down the red barn tonight
Dug up the ground you know it ain't right
Where do we go now to love and to fight
It ain't right
It ain't right
Blood brothers there me and you
Popped a cherry there maybe two
Summer was long what else could we do
It ain't right
It ain't right
Instrumental
Stealing nickels stealing dimes
Hid out from the cops there sometimes
Growing up was our only crime
It ain't right
It ain't right
Took a beatin' from my old man
Tries to break me whenever he can
Went to the red barn
Made me a plan
It's alright
It's alright
They're burning down the red barn tonight
Put all our secrets under a light
They might take the barn
They'll for sure get a fight
It ain't right
It ain't right
It ain't right
It ain't right
They're burning down the red barn tonight
They'll burn down the red barn
repeat

Description
|
Short Song Description: Point-of-view tale from Angry Young Man. He hears the townfolk are burning down the sacred place where teens gather to do what they do. The song is his visceral reaction and plan for vengeful response.
|
Story Behind the Song: Written when the planets were in perfect alignment- vacationing with dear friends in St Augustine FL. Had view of the ocean, peak moments, felt like I would never have to leave. It was life in the Sweet Spot and songwriters know you have to get to your guitar or piano NOW. This song came effortlessly and has only minor lyrical and thematic edits from what first went from head to fretboard.
